Several dozen private schools along the Atlantic coast offer rowing as a sport. Many have been doing it for years and compete regionally and nationally in the spring and fall regattas.

"The GPS rowing program provides an opportunity for girls in grades 9-12 to participate in the sport at a competitive level. Most of the rowers join the team without previous rowing experience, and any girl in grades 9-12 is welcome to participate. Last year at Nationals, the Lightweight 8 placed 5th overall and was the top high school team in their event.
