Several dozen private schools along the Atlantic coast offer rowing as a sport. Many have been doing it for years and compete regionally and nationally in the spring and fall regattas.
"Crew is the newest addition to the Saint Edward's School Athletic Program, with the Spring of 2005 being its inaugural season. Pirate Crew is unique in that it is one of the few sports at Saint Edward's where both male and female athletes train side by side to accomplish their goals. With the Indian River as the Pirates' playing field, the overall goal of Pirate Crew is to bring together all willing athletes from the Upper School, create team goals and train together as one unified team to achieve these goals. The season starts at the end of January and ends the last weekend in April."
