Founded in 1906 and accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) and the Connecticut State Board of Education, The Oxford Academy is an independent, nonsectarian, college preparatory boarding school for boys enrolling 48 students in grades 9-PG.

The mission of The Oxford Academy is to provide young men with a successful educational experience through one-to-one instruction, a structured boarding environment and a close, caring community of teachers and peers. Oxford seeks to help students develop both the academic and social skills necessary for future success as citizens of the world.

Each student at Oxford Academy is instructed at the level and pace most appropriate to his own ability and learning style. Students at Oxford benefit from carefully designed individual curricula, proctored study halls throughout the school day and close academic guidance. Each student participates in daily intramural or varsity sports throughout the year. Leadership roles such as dormitory representative are open to any member of the student body. The Residential Life Program includes on-campus community service, life skills programs, Recycling Club and Yearbook Club.

Of 22 faculty, 45% hold master’s degrees. The ratio of students to teachers is 2:1, and the average class size is 1.

The school year consists of five terms, each six weeks long, and a five-week summer session. Each class period is followed by a study hall during which the student is expected to complete homework to reinforce classroom instruction. Students may complete a course at any time during the school year once the requirements are met. Students are admitted on a rolling basis, as space permits. Diplomas are issued in December and June
