If you are looking for private schools with hockey programs, then you need a copy of the Prep School Hockey Guide. In addition to offering school profiles, the Guide explains how and when recruiting is done and provides contact information for coaches.

Burke Mountain Academy, East Burke, VT
School Type: Coed, boarding/day
Number of Students: 70
Grades: 7-12

Comments: Burke Mountain Academy is the place you go to if you want to be on the Olympic ski team. The focus athletically may be downhill but the academics are strictly uphill. BMA grads get into college and know how to balance their passion for skiing with passing the required courses.

Carrabassett Valley Academy, Carrabassett Valley, ME
School Type: Coed, boarding/day
Number of Students: 115
Grades: 9-12

Comments: Carrabassett Valley Academy's record speaks for itself: 10 Olympians and a whole slew of other top sports titles/team placements since 1982. If you want to do winter sports to the highest level and still manage to get into college, you need to look at CVA closely.

Heritage Academy, Hilton Head Island, SC
School Type: Coed, day

The Killington Mountain School, Sherburne, VT
School Type: Coed, Boarding/day
Number of Students: 50
Grades: 7-12

Comments: Killington is a winter academy. That means your child is still considered a student at her sending or original school. She spends 5 months at Killington during the winter then returns back to her own school. This seems to work well. KMS should be on your list of winter sports schools.

Mount Hood Academy, Government Camp, OR
School Type: Coed, day
Number of Students: 50
Grades: 9-12

Comments: In common with the New England winter sports schools, Mount Hood allows students from other schools to spend significant amounts of time on their sports activities at the same time as they meed the demands of a grueling academic program.
