As you begin your search for the right school for your child, look at as many schools as you can. Make a list of all the schools which interest you. Once you have done that, make a short list and visit the schools which seem to be the best fit.
About the Schools
Connecticut offers over 350 schools which technically can be called private schools. That means they are privately funded, not funded by taxpayer dollars. Statewide there are
- 134 Roman Catholic schools
- 16 Jewish schools
- 1 Friends school
- 7 Episcopal schools
- 18 Christian schools
- 34 Montessori schools
- 1 Waldorf school
Connecticut Private Schools lists schools which have their own websites. Use this as the starting point for your exploration of the many choices available to you. Connecticut is one of the New England states. Its location between New York and Boston makes most of its private schools only a couple of hours by car from either airport.
The state has dozens of boarding schools. Litchfield County in the northwest corner of the state is home to over 14 private schools.
Teacher Licensing
If you are thinking about teaching in Connecticut, check the licensing requirements carefully. Teaching licenses and credentials are not necessarily transferable from one state to another.
