A revolution is underway! Boughs of ivy are being replaced by coils of coax! Students are researching Latin lessons on the Internet! horribile dictu!
Seriously, have you noticed the increasing number of new positions being offered in the technology field? Only two or three years ago schools offered computer science positions which typically involved teaching Pascal or some other arcane progamming language. Now schools are anxious to hire qualified personnel to administer their LAN's and to integrate technology into their curricula. Check the ads on my Employment Page to see what I mean!
This merging of technology with curriculum has spawned a series of fascinating Web sites devoted to the subject. Take a look at my Technology Page for a sampling of resources. What does this mean? I see it as a recognition of where technology fits into the formal educational process. The Internet truly has revolutionized the way we research information and indeed how we present it. It further indicates that every subject is affected by this revolution. No teacher can avoid it! There's no going back!
What some private schools have done with technology is truly remarkable. Groton's Technology Plan is a good example. School campuses are now routinely wired so that Internet access is available in every room. Email is the communications vehicle of choice for routine matters including contact with parents and guardians. I recently enjoyed following a debate on ISED-L, the private school educators' mailing list, concerning the use of laptops. I had no idea that the use of laptops was so wide spread in private education, but it is!
Examine the hundreds of Private School Web Sites which I have collected for you! You will find some simply amazing implementations of technology, with many more to come. What would Mr. Chipping think...
