The Essential Difference Between Private and Public Education

Friday September 7, 2007
"If all of the nation’s children are to get the education they deserve, Congress needs to strengthen the No Child Left Behind law." - New York Times editorial Really Leaving No Child Behind

This statement sums up the essential difference between private and public education in my opinion. The education bureaucracy has public education tied up in knots. Very sad. That's why teachers who really want to teach head for private schools. In a private school a teacher is accountable to his clients. If he does not do a good job, the clients will demand to know why. If he does not fix the problem, he's gone. That rarely happens in public education. Accountability is at the heart of NCLB (No Child Left Behind).

My views on the differences between public and private education can be found here.
