PTAVE's Proposal to 272 U.S. Catholic Bishops

Monday June 19, 2006
I have been on PTAVE's mailing list for many years. What's PTAVE? Parents and Teachers Against Violence. My friend Jordan Riak, the executive director of PTAVE, regularly appears on CNN and other networks advocating sensless beating of children. PTAVE's latest foray into the domestic violence cesspool aims to change the position of the American Bishops of the Roman Catholic Church with regard to beating children.

PTAVE proposes the following resolution to these episcopal gentlemen: "BE IT RESOLVED that the US Conference of Catholic Bishops incorporates into its current program to counter domestic violence a standing admonition to all parishioners to refrain from the use of corporal punishment against children." Good luck, Jordan! I hope that you once again are successful.

Read my interview with Jordan Riak on the subject of corporal punishment. Be warned: it is a disturbing piece of reading. Read it. Get angry. Do something about it.

Finally, an embarrassing piece of news: beating children in school is legal in my state of North Carolina. Read Ban Corporal Punishment North Carolina for the sad facts and a petition in which you as a North Carolina resident can do your part.
