From the article: Using Cell Phones at School
Every student has a cellphone. Should its use be controlled? Should they be permitted on campus at all?
I Don't know
- I don't really know if it is a good idea to ban cell phones. They are very valuable to kids. It would be so devastating if a teacher took away a $100 cell phone. I am a student and I always use my cell phone at home because a lot of things happen in my unlucky family. I would just feel safer at school if I were able to get a call or text from a relative to know that someone has passed away, been hurt, or has given birth.

Taking Fun Away
- I think they should be allowed for fun stuff to do during school.

yes
- They should be allowed so a parent can get a hold of them when they are at school. I guess they could just call the school but it would be a whole heck of a lot easier if they were just allowed in schools.

our school's solution
- I am a mother of four students. All go and get out of school due to club meetings, etc. at different times. I want them to have their phones in school. What our high school has done to cut down on class disruption is to take up the phone and require a parent pay $15 upon retrieval. This enlists the help of the parents who are majorly inconvenienced (I've paid twice in two years) to "persuade" their child not to use their phones. Yes, it's a pain for the teacher in the short-run, but the payoff for all involved is less cell usage, not to mention the "donations" to the general fund. I hate that it has to be this way, but it's better than the schools who are banning them altogether.

importen
- We should be allowed to have cellphones because things do happen at home. For example if my mom had hurt herself I am one of her emergency contacts. Take my phone and I can't call my dad, my grandmom or any one I think can help my mom when I am in school.

Cell Phones
- Why are we always fighting technology? If cell phones are the most effective inputting device, then let's figure out how to incorporate cell phones into our pedagogy. I can remember when we got our first car with a radio in it. At first, it was never used because my father thought listening to it would cause accidents. That opinion quickly changed after the first time he turn it on. We have bigger issues to face in North American education than cell phones in the classroom. How about tackling something far more fundamental to learning - say, the 12 month school year? (My apologies to those parents who need their sons and daughters to help with the farming.)

A Student's Viewpoint
- Students should be allowed to bring cellphones to school for the following reasons: -Parents need to know where their kids are -a school lock down -school power is out -phone lines tide by other classmates -just to talk to someone if they having a bad day -if students turn cellphones off during class, then that will silence the distractions to other students. -Use the cellphone at lunch if necessary.

Cellphones and Homesickness
- As a mom, of a son who attends Georgetown Prep School as a boarding student, we painstakingly admit that we chose to take away our son.
