The Candidate Interview

The admissions staff will want to interview your child during your visit. The interview will take place without you present. Make sure your child is prepared for this important part of the admissions process.

The Writing Sample

Some schools include this as part of the application materials. Others will put a sheet of paper in front of you and give you a prompt. Often called an essay, the writing sample gives you a chance to show the school your writing skills. Don't let it frighten you. Just be yourself.

Admissions Testing

Next comes the admissions testing. The most commonly used standardized tests are The SSAT and The ISEE. Find out what each school requires and stick to their testing deadlines. It's impossible to cram for standardized tests. The earlier you can understand the tests and what they are looking for, the better off you'll be. The more preparation you can do, the more successful you will be on the day of the test. Remember: admissions tests are only on part of the admissions picture. Do the best you can.
