Sometimes you need to find a private school for your child long after the usual admissions deadlines have passed. Here's how to handle that situation.

Don't assume the worst. There may be places open. Determine where the school needs to be and proceed as in Steps 1 and 2. An educational consultant will be helpful as she will know schools which not only will be a good fit for your child but also which ones might have openings. If you are moving to a new area, ask your realtor for help. The local attorneys and clergy are other professionals worth speaking with about your education options.

Special needs, therapeutic and alternative schools work a little differently. They are accustomed to admitting students throughout the year.
