November's tasks in the time line for choosing a school have to be accomplished around a major holiday. Thanksgiving means that schools are closed for a week making visits and communications impossible or problematic at best.

1. Complete interviews.

You have only three weeks to get this done. Most schools close on the weekend before Thanksgiving and don't reopen until the Monday following the holiday.

2. Finalize how you will pay for it.

Your first tuition payment is not due until next spring/summer. However, if paying for your child's education is going to require financial aid, you need to complete the Parent's Financial Statement now. If you delay your submission of this important financial information, you will put any financial aid from the school at risk.

3. Review admissions deadlines.

In October you made a list of the deadlines. Review it remembering that it is important to submit your application well before the deadline if at all possible. If a school has rolling admissions, then submit the application as soon as you can.

4. Test preparation.

Make sure your child spends 15 minutes a day working some part of the admissions test. Practice will not make perfect but it will give her confidence when she takes the actual test.
