January's Tasks in the time line for choosing a school have to be accomplished in time to make the final admissions deadline. There's no time for delaying in January.

1. Submit applications.

Most schools which have application deadlines will have a January date. Usually this is the 15th or 31st of January. Don't wait until the last minute to submit your application online. When you do finally click the submit button, be sure to print out a receipt.

If you mail your application, pay for Proof Of Delivery service. If you use UPS or Fedex, Proof Of Delivery is part of the service. In any case you need to be able to prove that you indeed submitted the application.

2. Confirm that the application has been received.

Call or email the admissions office and confirm that they have received all your materials. Further confirm that your file is complete, i.e., the teacher recommendations and all supporting documents have been received. This is another reason why submitting your application a couple of weeks before the deadline is a good thing. If a recommendation or transcript is missing, you still have time to submit it before the deadline.
