The End of the Process
If there were application deadlines, they would have been in January or February. If there are no applications deadlines, the school will have what is called rolling admissions. That means the school will make an admissions decision once the application file is complete.
Many day schools in your community will still have places for this coming fall's admission. Always contact the school and find out what the current status is. It takes time to complete the applications, visit the school and do the testing. So don't put this off if you are looking to get your child into a local school for this fall.
Getting your child into a boarding school for this September is a little trickier. It will entirely depend on whether the school has places. Contact the school and find out. If they indicate that there might be a place, don't delay. Visit the school as soon as possible. You will get a sense of whether or not your child will get in.
Tip: If a school has a place and you can afford to pay full tuition, assuming that your child has what the school is looking for, you will be pleasantly surprised at how quickly a decision will be made regarding your application at this stage.
The Beginning of the Process
If you are just beginning the process of choosing a school for fall admission a year from now, then time is on your side. Review all the steps in the process. Make your lists of schools. Plan your visits over the late spring and summer. You will be able to enjoy the process so much more because it won't all be squeezed into one or two hectic months.
