Let's Chat!

Does Chat conjure up visions of time wasting, pointless conversations and worse? It shouldn't! Chat can be a very useful tool for educators as it enlivens your lessons by connecting you and your students across great distances immediately.  Let's look at some of the possibilities. I am sure that you can think up many more uses!
  • Joint projects with other schools around the world
  • Exchange and discussion of trends and ideas between teachers
  • Admissions open houses
  • Academic and research help
Joint Projects with Other Schools
Chat is ideal for joint projects with other schools around the world. A few years ago, for instance, my eighth grade Latin class did a mythology project with a school in New Zealand via e-mail. Chat gives that sort of  project immediacy and excitement as the two classes can log on and begin to exchange answers online. Students love chat, readily retain the information exchanged - no matter how trivial - and will find many more uses for it than you and I can possibly imagine!

Exchange and Discussion
Most of us use e-mail to exchange ideas. It works very well. Using Chat to supplement e-mail takes discussion to an even higher level by adding the element of immediacy. Forums, seminars, round tables, board meetings, committee meetings, and so on are all valid uses of this facility. If you wish to be a Moderator for a particular time slot in order to maintain control, just contact me. I can set that permission up without difficulty.

Admissions Open Houses
Recruiting students is a critical function of any independent school. Recruiting trips, open houses and the like are all part of the program. Now you can add Chat to your lists of tools. Schedule a Chat Session and use the privacy feature to keep your conversations totally private. It is cost-effective too!

Academic and Research Help
Chat affords students yet another resource for help with their studies and research. Please use it to set up study halls or work groups.

So, do work the Private School Chat Room into your academic life. It's yours to use as you please!

Be sure to visit the Private Schools Forum before you leave! There's always an interesting discussion going on! Guaranteed!
