English Teachers' Resources
| English has always meant reading, writing, grammar and
literature. English is a core subject. All students have to take
it until they graduate from high school. Accordingly students can evince
about as much enthusiasm for the subject as they do for going to bed early
- not much!
So the eternal challenge for English teachers is how to make the subject interesting. I like to think that things are a bit easier these days. In the past decade desktop publishing has flourished. Students have quickly learned the required keyboarding skills, and found that tools like spell and grammar checking improved their proficiency and presentation. Now Web pages have caught on. They also use all the traditional English disciplines, and have the additional advantage of being easily published on the Internet. As a result they are extremely popular with students. I think that these are exciting times for English teachers! So many of the resources which we have longed for our students to see, read and marvel at are now readily accessible on the Internet. Great libraries abound on the Internet. Examples of every literary form are just a click away. With all this in mind, I offer a few links for your delectation and use. They can be found at Teaching Resources - English. I hope that they are not the usual ones, as you and I both know we can find those ones just about anywhere! No, I seek out the extraordinary and the unusual links which I hope will our understanding of the subject matter. If you have some favorite English links, please send them along to me so that I can add them and share them with everyone. Visit the Private Schools Forum before you leave! Be part of the discussion! Did you sign up for your copy of the
Private
Schools Newsletter? It's a weekly, offering new links and much
more of interest to parents, teachers, administrators and students! Read
it online too.
