Mailing lists have been around since the beginnings of
the Internet. They are just that: an email address to which you
send a message. They are a great way for professionals to exchange ideas
and information. Here are four for private school professionals which are
well worth subscribing to! And then I have some thoughts about a better
technology.
NBOA is the National Business Officers Association mailing list. If you are involved with the running of a school, I highly commend NBOA to you. You will find the list members helpful and affable. Subscribing is easy using the form provided on the NBOA site. This is a closed list for which membership approval is required. EDTECH "was conceived to bring together students, faculty, and 'interested others' in the field of educational technology to share ideas and information." To subscribe send the message "SUBSCRIBE EDTECH firstname lastname, university or other affiliation" Admission is "an open forum for the posting and discussion of news and information relating to admission concerns." This is a closed list. You will have to be approved before you can receive or send messages. Listservs are gradually being replaced by discussion groups. Why? Well, for one thing, the technology supporting discussion groups is more robust than that which runs the listservs. And it's easier to follow a thread in a discussion group. Be sure to check out the very active discussion group which we have on this Private School site. We call it a Forum, but that's what it is: a discussion group! Please stop by and participate! Did you sign up for your copy of the Private Schools Newsletter? It's a weekly, offering new links and much more of interest to parents, teachers, administrators and students! Read it online too.
