What To Do When Your Child Needs Special Ed
It's a heart-stopping moment when a parent is told that her child has a learning disability. Read the post in the Private Schools Forum from an anguished mother and you can only sympathize. It's a strong, bitter pill to swallow. The truth always is.
Having said that, the school gets full marks from me for telling the truth not only about the student but also about its own inability to provide the necessary remediation and specialized education the student needs.
What to do now? Seek professional advice and find a school which offers the programs the child needs. We know so much more these days about how to teach children who have learning disabilities. Don't give up hope. And don't blame the school for not taking on a student it can't handle. The school is simply being truthful.
