Many private day and boarding schools are increasingly hiring teachers who have Ph.D.s or doctoral degrees in their fields. Schools like to hire Ph.Ds. because having more doctorates on their staff looks good in school rankings and may draw parents to their school; however, teachers with Ph.D.s may not necessarily have the teaching background to impart knowledge and connect with students in grades K-12. In addition, Ph.D.s may be more used to teaching college students, who are more independent and who don't need as much teaching of skills.
