Commonwealth School, founded in 1957, is located in the heart of Boston in the Back Bay. The school's urban location provides its students with an active education with the city as a backdrop. Commonwealth calls itself "a small school with a big heart," and its approximately 150 students in grades 9-12 are required to complete 70 hours of community service before graduation. The school offers its students with many opportunities to work in the community and to develop social responsibility, one of the school's goals.
