How Do Private Schools Determine Financial Aid?

About 20-30% of private school students receive some form of financial aid, but how do schools determine how much each family can pay? To streamline the financial aid process, many private schools use the Parents' Financial Statement (PFS), put out by the Student and Student Services (SSS). Here is more information about what the Parents' Financial Statement asks and how schools use the "Estimated Family Contribution" determined by the SSS to figure out how much each family can pay toward private school tuition.
