Dr. Madeline Levine's best-selling book Teach Your Children Well: Parenting for Authentic Success, just published this summer, is truly one of the most important parenting books in recent years. Dr. Levine's message is in some ways simple: to raise children who turn into fulfilled and deeply satisfied adults, parents have to stop engaging in what she calls "hyperparenting" and attempting to turn their kids into superachievers. Instead, parents have to help kids develop emotional skills and moral values. Parents also have to realize that kids, like adults, simply can't be good at everything. Dr. Levine also suggests schools have a role in reducing kids' epidemic levels of stress.
