Every time I see the term 'experiential education' on a school's website I am intrigued. Perhaps it's because my schooling in the Westmount schools in Montreal was so, well, bookish and academic. As I recall, my exposure to experiential education came when I was a Boy Scout. Also, my grandfather, Alan William Kennedy, was an avid outdoorsman who made sure his shy, bookish grandson learned how to split firewood and repair the roads at the country place in the Gatineau Hills known as Camp.
With public schools cutting the extras to the bone during these very tough times it is encouraging to see that many private schools consider experiential programs an important part of their curricula.
What's your take on experiential education? A waste of time? A wonderful thing? Leave a comment or tweet me at PRIVATESCHL and share your thoughts.
