Did you just take your daughter off to school for the first time? Is she homesick? Not to worry. A bout or two of homesickness is perfectly normal. Cellphones add to the challenge of striking out on her own. So you have to resist the temptation of calling her every hour. And don't allow her to call you every hour either. Establish a regular time for a 15 minute chat and stick to it.
Of course you are there for her. But she needs to learn quickly that she has to adjust and cope. That's what life is about. Her adviser and dorm master will help her meet older students who will take her under their wing. She will quickly make lots of new friends if you give her some room to do so.
Read Exeter's letter to parents from 2008. Great advice.
