Milton Hershey School Turns 100!

Monday July 6, 2009
Milton Hershey School celebrates its 100th birthday in 2009. The school was founded in 1909 by Milton and Catherine Hershey. I was delighted to discover this happy news while watching the Food Channel's Ghouls, Ghost and Chocolate. The show was preparing a 6 foot long chocolate bar and some Hershey's Kisses in honor of the school's 100th birthday. The scene of the students gobbling up the cakes was delightful.

Compassionate, civic-minded benefactors like Milton and Catherine Hershey made a difference in their day by establishing a tuition free school serving children who came from low income families. It is exciting to see donors in our time carrying on the tradition of free schools.
