Spotlight on Kent School

Friday November 28, 2008
Today's spotlight takes us to Kent, Connecticut. Nestled in the foothills of the Berkshires on the Housatonic River just 90 miles north of Manhattan, Kent is a picturesque New England village where the rich and famous mingle relatively unnoticed with the locals. Oscar de la Renta and Henry Kissenger, to name just two notables, have made Kent their home for many years.

Kent School got its start over 100 years ago as a boys school. The founder, Father Sill - Pater to his students - instilled core values including the belief that everybody should do chores. That quaint tradition lives on today. There are not many schools where the scion of a major family fortune can be found wiping down the shower stalls on a regular basis. That's the essence of Kent.

I admittedly am biased. My eldest daughter Heather went to Kent. It was the best money we ever spent as it gave her a solid footing for life. (She graduated fifth in her class and went on to spend a year at Smith then transferred to Harvard.)

Read Kent's profile. If you went to Kent and would like to share your thoughts and comments, please leave a post in the Forum.
