Recycling Catholic Schools

Saturday September 6, 2008
Like many parents I was curious as to what would happen to all the Catholic school buildings which have been shuttered in the past few years. Literally hundreds of parochial schools have been forced to close as a result of financial pressures at the parish and diocesan level. It is heartening to see seven former Catholic schools reopening as charter schools in the District of Columbia. Even more wonderful is the rehiring of former teachers and administrators. I guess it is an important lesson which we can teach our children too: change is inevitable. Approach it in a positive spirit and wonderful things can happen. If you are looking for more information on Catholic schools in your area, the National Catholic Education Association's site is the place to look.
