I don't understand why so many southern states permit beating. Those states are Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas. Yet I was shocked to read that a school district in
Georgia is bringing back spanking. With parental permission, of course.
Corporal punishment is still legal in 22 states in the union. Please write your legislators and demand that these third world practices cease. The United States is the only first world country which allows children to be beaten, legally.

Oh, please! Don’t be so silly! It’s not like it’s an everyday occurrence! I taught in N.C. and took one kid to the principal to be paddled, yes, with the parents’ permission (teachers are respected down in the South). It never had to happen again.
Please do not degrade the southerners. To do so only shows your ignorance and prejudice about something that you know nothing about. They are a marvelous people: caring, non-greedy, helpful, funny as hell, well-mannered; the list goes on. Nothing like us Yankees.
Walk in the shoes of someone else before you judge them.
We need to break the cycle of beating. The states which allow beating are mostly southern. I live in the south and I love it very much. But I will not tolerate beating. And I am not going to be a hypocrite. I feel strongly about the issue.
Please!!! Spanking is not beating. If you don’t know the difference then you were obviously never spanked. We have gone from a nation that trains our children to be well behaved students by using appropriate spanking to inappropriate medicating. You tell me which is worse: a swat on the behind or a dose of Ridalin!!! Y
Paddling has absolutely no place in school. I can discipline my own child, thank you very much.
Why do we choose, as informed parents and school administrators to ignore the advice of professional organizations who are against physical punishment of children?
Such as:
THE AMERICAN ACADEMY OF CHILD AND ADOLESCENT PSYCHIATRY, THE AMERICAN SCHOOL COUNSELOR ASSOCIATION,THE NATIONAL COUNCIL OF TEACHERS OF ENGLISH, THE NATIONAL CENTER FOR THE STUDY OF CORPORAL PUNISHMENT AND ALTERNATIVES (NCSCPA), THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF SECONDARY SCHOOL PRINCIPALS
The removal of the authority of parents and teachers to execute discipline with the onset of poor adult supervision of any kind violence, drug indulgence and imposition of drugs to control kids has left our children to be easy prey for child molesters abusers and killers. If the first correction is by the taser gun or brute force of the police what are we doing?. Discipline must start at home and in the schools including the paddle.
I feel discipline is do at all levels. What better thanthat family and teachers are involved than to use police and their methods.
If you are afraid that their are those adults who will abuse kids than prosecute thyem as criminals.
Hey, Iam a student at J.Z.George High School in North Carrollton. Our teachers dont even care about us so why should some one paddle us that dont care. Our prinicpal lies to parents will not talk to them or inform them when the student is in trouble. He called the police on one parent for coming on campus to check on her child. He have had many students crying he paddle the student even if they say no and has a paper by their parent signed saying that they child cant recieve a paddling. Our school really is ridculous we need help. On dec. 19 the assisant principal kicked a student and nothing has been did by it yet. And the bus drivermangager had his fist bold up was going to strike a student the teachers curse student call them stupid dumb and talk about the badly. This school needs a change.
For goodness sake! This issue has been done to death in the UK and I get fed up of hearin of people moanin about it – corporal punishment was probably the most effective method of punishment available – yes some people take it too far but these are the exception rather than the rule.
I was smacked as a child and I tell you it worked better than anything else as a deterrent – I still broke the rules but I knew I would get punished for doing so. Thankfully my parents were loving and so knew where the line was between punishment and beating and as long as there is corrective action taken by the state when a parent is abusive things will be fine.
In 1980 in Georgia I watched a 6th grader get a paddling in sets of 50 until he was given 1010 hard cracks on his rear over the course of an hour. The 10 came from the principle and the rest from both male and female teachers. He was walked all over that school and you could her him screaming and crying.
what school gave that boy over 1000 swats ?
