How Safe Is Your School?

Saturday April 12, 2008
We live in a world much different from the world in which I grew up. I remember wandering about Montreal on streetcars and buses on a Saturday with nary a thought about danger. Gangs didn't exist. Guns were few and far between. Nowadays I wouldn't allow my grandchildren to wander outside my home in downtown Raleigh, North Carolina! (And Raleigh is fairly safe!) So, what about your school? As you head towards the end of the year, give your campus the once over. How safe is it? Are you inviting trouble by not having security in place? What about all the 'hidden' safety issues like hazing and bullying? Are your students capable of beating a fellow student like those eight teenagers accused of exactly that in Lakeland, Florida? Who knows! Read the articles under the heading School Safety. Then take appropriate action.
