I remember only too well how terrified my oldest son was of a bully at his school. It was one reason we pulled him from public school and put him in a private school. The truth is that bullying occurs in private schools too. It make take more subtle forms, but it lurks, as all these nasties do, in the shadows where parents have to look hard to see it. Cyber-bullying is the latest form. And it is bullying which knows few bounds. It can operate 24/7 and has a truly global reach. Now how intimidating is that? Well, so intimidating in fact that a British radio station has an article about an
anti-bullying Web tool on its site. Thankyou, Nick Ferguson, for alerting us to this great tool!
So, what's a parent to do? For starters, make sure that your school has a policy on bullying and that the policy is indeed enforced. The handbook is the first place to look. Then, be vigilant. Listen to what your child says. Observe any changes in behavior and attitude. Be guided accordingly. More here.
