Hizzoner Vetoes Cellphones

Saturday August 11, 2007
It fascinates me that Michael Bloomberg adamantly refuses to allow over one million NYC students to bring cellphones into school. I am not even referring to cellphone use. Hizzoner won't even let a kid bring his iPhone into the building! And the man made gazillions in technology. Oh well!

My argument for allowing cellphones is simply to permit parents and children to communicate as necessary throughout the day. New York like most major urban areas is fraught with challenges. Being able to communicate with your child is critical. Do you agree? For more of my thoughts read Using Cellphones.

If you are a school principal, how do you alert your community to important news and information? Every school needs a Web-based notification system. It's cheap insurance against what nowadays is the inevitable. But guess what? You can't send a text message unless the recipient has a cellphone.
