Are Private Schools Safe from Shootings?

From Robert Kennedy, About.com GuideOctober 3, 2006

Follow me on:

I used to think, somewhat naively, that the kind of senseless massacres which occurred at Red Lake, Columbine and other public schools would never happen in a private school setting. Now I am not so sure! What has changed my mind? The horrific execution of five girls in a one room school house in Amish country on October 2, 2006. I always imagined that a rural farming community which espoused a simple, 18th century way of life would somehow be immune from school shootings. They seemed so isolated from such senseless acts of violence.

So, are private schools safe from shootings or other violence? Just as with financial and legal matters, I would seek the best professional advice which I could afford. Then we would agree on a plan of action and protocols for handling the unthinkable. Is your school prepared?
