I'll confess right now: last night I went to the NHL playoff game between the Hurricanes and the Canadiens. Since I was born and raised in Montreal, it was super seeing the Canadiens win 6-1. Watching all those young athletes skooting about the ice playing such great hockey reminded me that we have some excellent private school hockey programs.
If your son or daughter (yes, many coed and girls schools mount girls' hockey teams) is an aspiring hockey player, you can't do much better than Albany Academy, Avon Old Farms, Belmont Hill, Berkshire School, Canterbury, Choate Rosemary Hall, The Gunnery, Hotchkiss, Kent School, Loomis-Chaffee, Millbrook, Nichols School, Pomfret, Salisbury, South Kent, Taft, Trinity-Pawling, Westminster, Williston-Northampton and Winchendon to name just a few outstanding schools. What's my point? Private schools offer superb athletics combined with excellent academics. You can tour 3,700 American schools on this site.

What about Shattuck-St. Mary’s (at http://www.s-sm.org/)? They have a more-than-solid academic program and an excellent hockey program. Your list of schools is awfully New England-centric.
Peter: You are right. All those great schools in the central and mountain states with great hockey teams such as Shattuck-St. Mary’s deserve to be included. I’ll take a 4 minute penalty for high sticking!
