Integration through Economic Diversity

Monday September 26, 2005
As Test Scores Jump, Raleigh Credits Integration by Income is Alan Finder's report in the New York Times on the Wake County, North Carolina school system's results with economic integration. While many factors converged to make the program work successfully, it still took determination and, indeed, courage to achieve the good results. I live and work in Raleigh, North Carolina. It's encouraging to see a novel approach to integration succeeding here in the south.

The first school district in the country to adopt economic integration was Lacrosse, WI. It has worked in several schools districts nationwide including Cambridge, MA, Charlotte-Mecklenburg, NC, South Orange & Maplewood, NJ, Manchester, CT, St. Lucie County, FL and San Francisco, CA.
