Exit Library. Intrat Information Commons.

Tuesday July 5, 2005
The University of Texas at Austin is removing books at its undergraduate library and transforming the space into an information commons. UTA and many other colleges and unversities feel this is a practical way to deal with the flood of digital information students must deal with. Rather than encouraging students to download in their dorm rooms, the university authorities hope to promote collegial interaction in common areas equipped to deal with technology and its requirements. I wonder how many private schools have considered such a project. BTW the University of Southern California's library went digital in 1994. Dewey has gone GUI big time!
